Intro
Barton Peveril is an outstanding sixth-form college in central Hampshire. Over 5,000 full-time students choose to fulfil their academic potential here, flourishing in a supportive environment that also develops the broader range of skills required for successful progression to university or employment.
Located on the outskirts of Eastleigh, the college attracts high-achieving students from Chandler’s Ford, Eastleigh, Southampton, Fair Oak, Hedge End, Fareham, Romsey, New Forest and Winchester.
In 2023, the college was rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted – a recognition of its dedication to quality, innovation, and the student experience.
The Challenge
Barton’s Science Café was ready for a transformation. Tired finishes, worn fittings, and a layout that had lost its spark. The brief? Reimagine the café as a bold, functional, and future-proof space that reflects the energy of its students and the innovation of the campus itself.
The client was clear: the space needed to be modern, robust, and operationally efficient, with smart service design, integrated waste solutions, and a finish palette that fused science and style.
The timeline was tight, coordination with Concept Building Services critical, and every detail had to align with new waste legislation and sustainability targets.
The Solution
Nebrak’s proposal hit the brief square on.
We presented a full design solution, complete with detailed renders and materials strategy that married form and function in equal measure.
Our concept featured:
- Acoustic panelling for warmth and texture.
- EGGER base units for a sleek, durable contrast.
- Plain white solid surface counters to keep it fresh and easy to maintain.
- A bespoke sugar and waste station designed to meet updated waste legislation.
- Smart service voids, electrical trunking, and built-in space for equipment. Ensuring every machine had a home and every cable had a route.
The client praised our visual renders, competitive pricing, and understanding of their vision, awarding Nebrak the contract to bring the concept to life.
The build
The build began at the end of June with project partners Concept Building Services clearing the site and starting first fix electrics & plumbing with handover mid-August.
Our installation blended craftsmanship with precision planning.
- Base unit furniture: Egger Carbon Grey Base Units U968 ST9
- Acoustic panelling: Hockley Walnut MOD0108
- Solid surface: 12mm Designer White Durasein
Egger is a leading international, family-owned manufacturer of wood-based materials. Since 1961, they have been responsibly sourcing and producing sustainable wood materials to the highest quality. Materials in this project were selected from The Decorative Collection 24+ for their performance, tactility, and timeless appeal.
Durasein’s solid surface brings seamless durability and hygienic resilience — a fresh, contemporary finish made to perform.
Behind every detail sat deep technical consideration:
- Service voids for data and power trunking
- Integrated stainless-steel sinks and hand-wash stations
- Acoustic front panelling with inset plinths to prevent scuffing
- Redesigned condiment station with a built-in cutlery tray and four-chute recycling solution
Every element was refined in collaboration with the client and Concept Building Services, ensuring a seamless fit, efficient installation, and flawless finish.
