Vendaid x Orkla House Care Project
See how we turned Orkla House Care’s tired canteen into a 24/7 Micro Market. Bringing high-street convenience into the workplace.

Project Overview
When Orkla House Care wanted to rethink its employee refreshment provision, the objective was about far more than replacing a canteen. The business wanted to create an environment that better supported today’s workforce. A space providing convenient access to food and drink throughout the day while improving the overall employee experience.
Working alongside workplace refreshment specialist Vendaid, Nebrak designed, manufactured and installed a bespoke micro market environment that transformed an underused staff canteen into a modern, self-service destination available around the clock.
The completed space now gives employees access to fresh food, snacks, hot drinks and refreshments whenever they need them, helping create a workplace that feels more flexible, inclusive and connected.
The Brief
Like many workplace catering facilities, the existing canteen no longer reflected how employees worked.
Restricted opening hours meant shift workers often had limited access to food and refreshments, while traditional catering arrangements were becoming increasingly expensive to operate. The space itself offered little reason for employees to spend time there, resulting in low engagement and an environment that wasn’t delivering value for either the business or its people.
The brief was to create a refreshment destination that would:
- Provide 24/7 access for every shift pattern.
- Reduce operational overheads.
- Encourage greater use of the space.
- Deliver a convenient, retail-inspired experience within the workplace.
- Create an environment employees genuinely wanted to use.
The Solution
Working in partnership with Vendaid, Nebrak transformed the existing canteen into a modern micro market and refreshment destination.
Designed around the way people eat, work and connect today, the space combines self-service technology with bespoke furniture to create an environment that’s intuitive to use, available 24/7 and built around every shift pattern.
The completed installation includes:
-
- 24/7 self-service micro market
- Coffee station
- Breakout seating and dining area
- Integrated recycling station
- Sink and storage cabinetry
- Contactless payment technology
- CCTV-compatible layout
- Bespoke branded furniture and graphics
Behind the Build
Projects like this demonstrate how thoughtful interior design can help workplace refreshment technology perform at its best.
Good materials also make a difference. To create a space capable of withstanding heavy daily use, Nebrak combined premium EGGER and Kronospan decorative boards, balancing durability with a contemporary workplace aesthetic.
Every element, from the bespoke cabinetry to the integrated coffee station and recycling facilities, was manufactured in-house before being completed with Nebrak’s print and branding service. The result is a cohesive refreshment destination that feels purpose-built rather than assembled from individual components.
Decorative boards help define the character of a space as much as its durability. For this project, EGGER and Kronospan finishes were chosen to create a clean, contemporary environment. Natural Nebraska Oak brings warmth and texture, while Black, Dust Grey and White Pearl provide a crisp, modern contrast. Accents of Mamba Green subtly reinforce the client’s branding, bringing the overall scheme together.

- Egger Dusk Grey U732 ST9
- Kronospan White Pearl K101PE
- Kronospan Black K190PE
- Kronospan Mamba Green K7190
Integrated shelving, back panels, product risers and EPOS displays help create a retail-style experience within the workplace. Every element is selected to improve product visibility, support clear merchandising and make the micro market easy to browse and use.
Comfortable, durable furniture plays an important role in encouraging people to use and enjoy a workplace refreshment space. High-back booth seating creates informal areas for eating and socialising, while contract tables with matching Natural Nebraska Oak end panels bring warmth, continuity and a cohesive finish to the overall environment. Every element was selected to balance everyday durability with a welcoming, contemporary aesthetic.
Signage plays an important role in giving a refreshment space its own identity. For this project, bespoke acrylic lettering was produced in partnership with Plastexe and combined with a Dibond feature wall, designed and printed in Nebrak’s in-house print studio. Together, these elements create a strong visual focal point that reinforces the space, complements the wider interior and helps transform the former canteen into a recognisable workplace destination.
