At Maidstone Leisure Centre, (operated by Serco), visitors enjoy a fantastic mix of activities for all ages and abilities. Facilities include a fully air-conditioned gym, five swimming pools, a Lagoon Pool with Totem Splash Pad, and a versatile sports hall for classes and events.

After a workout or swim, visitors can relax at the on-site café, a social space to refuel and recharge. However, the café needed a modern redesign to improve both flow and efficiency. Nebrak was appointed to transform the space into a functional, contemporary servery without compromising seating or comfort.

the challengE

The existing servery lacked cohesion and struggled to manage peak-time crowds. Movement between the vending, fridge, and counter areas was confusing, creating unnecessary bottlenecks.

Moreover, the café had to retain as much seating as possible to maintain customer capacity. The brief also required integration of existing client equipment, ensuring both cost efficiency and operational continuity.

The challenge was clear: create a modern, efficient café that connected zones seamlessly while maximising usable space.

The Solution

Nebrak designed a fully bespoke cafeteria fit-out combining performance, aesthetics, and practicality.
The new layout introduced a serve-over counter, vending housing, and defined seating area, all designed for smoother customer flow.
Each element worked together to create a natural, intuitive route from food selection to payment.

Premium finishes were introduced for warmth, texture, and resilience. Together, they created a cohesive, durable environment aligned with Serco’s high operational standards.

Additionally, clever zoning between the fridge, vending, and counter areas improved visibility and circulation. This approach enhanced usability and overall customer experience, especially during busy periods.

The build

Nebrak managed the full project from design through to manufacture, delivery, and installation. All cabinetry and counters were produced in-house for accuracy and consistency. LED lighting and durable finishes elevated the look while ensuring easy maintenance.

The build was completed on time with minimal disruption to leisure centre operations. Each installation stage was carefully planned, ensuring quality and precision at every step. As a result, the finished space feels open, efficient, and inviting.
